from http://kidstvmovies.about.com/od/childrenstvnewsinfo/a/babytvdvd.htm :
"In my research on DVDs made for babies, I have found two series that seem the most age appropriate and provide the best possible value for babies. The first is a product by Sony Wonder called Eebees. Each Eebee’s adventures DVD is divided into three, 10-minute segments, which focus on a learning concept modeled by Eebee and other babies. The DVDs emphasize learning through play and exploration, and they also contain a wealth of information and ideas for parents.
The second series is Sesame Beginnings, by Sesame Workshop. Sesame Beginnings also provides great information for parents, and the DVD content is slowly paced interaction between baby Sesame Street characters and their caregivers. The best thing about Sesame Beginnings DVDs, though, is the music. Babies love it!
Both of these DVD series have in common an important factor that I have not seen as strongly in other baby DVDs. In Eebees and Sesame Beginnings, the play and interactions are modeled so well, that they inspire parents to want to play with their kids and also to improve the quality of the play and the quality of attention they give to their precious babies."

My two year old boy has been watching Baby Einstein DVD's since he was about four months old and now he knows how to sing the ABC's and count to 10 with no trouble and he also sings songs. It will keep your baby quiet for 20 to 30 minutes because that's how long the videos are. My six month old already loves them!!

I heard that Costco has all the baby Einstein videos( the whole collections) for 100.00 it may seem like a lot of money but there are like 10 or 15 I think and they are about 20 dollars a piece. That should give you some variety and it is ABC, counting, colors, animals, shapes and all sorts of stuff.

Baby Einstein is great!! My 9-month old has been fascinated by them since she was about a month old.
We've got the 6 or so of them that are rated 0-18 months and ones for older babies will be on my daughter's birthday/Christmas list this year!! They're only about 20 minutes and work great to keep her attention briefly.

My 4 month old loves Classical Baby. If you have HBO, it shows on there sometimes. You can also order them from amazon.com. It's classical music, and then they show art or dancing. It's really relaxing. My son has gotten into OPERA, believe it or not. But it's great because it's not really special made baby music, it's classical, such as Mozart, Bach, and such. There's even jazz, and a little cricket that plays Fiddler on the Roof, lol.
I use it more for the music, he's so young he could could care less about the pictures. But it's a great way to expose them to music, art and dance.

The Baby Einstein series is awesome!! Both my kids were fascinated by them. The Brainy Baby DVDs are good too. Buying them on Ebay is the best bet. If not, go to Amazon.com!

If its just for background noise, how about the radio? Fred Penner, Raffi and Charlotte Diamond make some great kids music.
there is no evidence that playing 'educational' videos to infants makes any difference - and the images are actually harmful to their brain development. It makes no sense to them.
