I will be 40 in a couple weeks and I have been doing it since 17. Back then I did it, only occassionally when suffering with short bouts of insomnia. Then once I quit college, I worked nights. Then I was in the Navy for 16 years, in which I had to stand watches or work on equipment. I have been out few years now, and I am in college fulltime.
Through years of getting little sleep and having such bad sleeping habits, I now am a true insomniac. Couple that with sleep apnea so that when I do sleep, I cannot really sleep. These have led to severe memory and attention problems, so that it takes me hours to do schoolwork in which it would take a normal person half of the time!
Take it from me, try to develop good sleeping habits now, if possible, or it will only get worse!

I do this all the time and I'm older than you. I even say the same thing as you, it's easier just to stay up. My husband will say "do you realize you've been awake for over 30+ hours"? And by that time I don't even realize I've been up that long. I actually need nine hours of sleep to feel my best, but I'll sleep a good 12 after being awake for so long.

yea I am the same way. I dont pull all nighters that often but if I am going to get less than 4-5 hours of sleep I am better off with none.

Sometimes? Try, all the time! I rarely even sleep anymore... I gave up on trying months ago... now I have a lot of free time and, I'm only running on about 2- 3 hours of sleep.

Well, you may feel alright, but it may catch up with you later in life if you do it a lot. It is considered "healthy" to get at least 7 hrs of sleep. Anything less, and you are not giving your body a chance to cool down.
I only stay up late if I am able to sleep in the next day. Otherwise, I am usually in bed by 10 or 11...

You sound identical to me. I'm also 26 and been doing it since about 17. Just don't feel tired half the time so I figure whats the point in sleeping. Plus you get more time to do what you want.

Your body clock determines how much sleep you need. You can also be sleep-deprived without being aware of it and might not be as productive if you don't get restorative sleep. Also you need REM sleep which is when you dream and dreams are the way things are sorted out by your mind. Just a few thoughts on sleep for you to ponder.
