my cam is built in to my lap top

Hi Gary...check your iSight cam on your Macbook with the application Photo Booth (HD-->Applications-->Photo Booth) to see if you can duplicate this same error. If it works fine with this software then it could be the chat software you are using. If it does it there, you may have a defective cam...therefore I'd back up all your files and head back to the Apple store for warranty service.

Also consider posting your question in the free Apple Discussion forum for Macbook Pro: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=190 just to be sure I didn't miss anything

Sometimes the built-in iSight will mess up on you. There's a widget called Miror available from the Apple's Widget site that could help solve the problem. Also, try completely restarting your computer, meaning Shut down, wait, and then power back on.
