It depends on why you would be making the waitress mad...Did she screw up? I am a waitress and have had extreamly rude customers who have even thretened me for no reason other than thier anger. If you are mean for a legitimate reason, voice that articulately so that they understand your reasoning for being upset, otherwise give them the respect you would anybody else because why not?

It isn't a good idea to make anyone mad at you before service.
When it comes to waitressing - it may not be the image of spit on your food -- but ah, all the other things that can be done. Like making you wait an excruciating long period before being served, or being ignored, no refills -- or one of my personal favorites - the delivery of the check - you wanted it when?
It is true many that wait tables don't want to be there but need the money to support their families. In better restaurants where the professional wait staff is - I doubt you could find a reason to irritate them.
Be kind to your fellow human beings. If the waitress/waiter was that terrible - where you really wanted to lose it -- then just leave a small to no tip at all. You could always write them a note that it may be time for them to find another job... one they would like to do.

It is a bad idea to make anyone mad at you unless you have no other alternative.
But to get on an individual's badside who you don't know and who is bringing you something that you will be putting in your body is about as safe as sticking your hand in a lion's mouth just 'because' somebody tells you he is tame. The lion may bite you or he may not...........but the bottom line is he has the potential and once it is done you are in trouble.
There are a lot of unstable people in this world who look like normal people say like..........your everyday waitress. Just because she is not supposed to put rat poison in your food doesn't gaurantee it. Who knows.......maybe she is having a really bad day......her boyfriend just dumped her.....her cat just died........and somebody rear-ended her car earlier in the day. You making her angry might be all it takes for her not to care anymore and just lash out in whatever way she feels........like putting something 'extra' in your food or drink. It does happen.

I used to be a waitress and the people that were rude or were never satisfied either got an extra charge on their bill, food droped on the floor or some spit. Yeah , not a good idea, you need to treat them like their the best person on earth.

Don't be rude to a waitress. They are just doing their job. They may not like their job, or maybe they are having a bad day...but please don't make it worse. They put up with all sorts of horrible people just to make ends meet. Most waitresses I know don't mess with your food if you make them angry.
Just remember, what would it feel like if you were in their shoes. Would you tamper with someones food if they pissed you off? If you would think so, then it's best to just leave them alone.
Sorry man...it could be someones mother or sister working there.

Well of course. People are evil and vindictive by nature and some are even to the point that they would put things in your food to get even. I witnessed it first hand working at a fast food place. A co-worker did horrible things to people's food when they pissed her off. I saw her put mop water in a customer's drink, spit on someone's food, drop their meat in the trash before putting it in their bag. It was disgusting. She was found out and fired but there's no way to tell how many people she did that to before she got caught. She may even have made someone sick. Be careful and be nice or stay home when you eat.

Naturally, but as a customer I try to be as nice to the server as doable. And if I get that niceness back...a tip might be justifiable.
Since I have never gotten a waiter/waitress mad.

Be cautious with anyone who is irritated with you who is handling your food for obvious reasons! Food servers are wonderful people--but some might not be. If she's a low life who thrives on getting even, she might share any one of her bodily fluids on your food plate (I know--that is so very yucky). Or, she might simply drop your steak on the dirty floor and quickly replace it on your plate. If you are really, really irked at the waitress, you will probably know it before you order and get your food, so...leave while you are healthy!!!!

Only the ones that are nasty anyway would spit on your food. I was in food service for 20 years before deciding to stay home with my son and I NEVER spit on someone's food because they made me mad.
