you ahve a bd virus that has proabaly corrupted your OS. There is nothing you can do without getting into the OS so you ahve to backup your data and or send it to a repair shop to see if your files are retrievable.

Hopefully you created your emergency start up disks/cd or have a friend that has a set. (you could try creating a set from another computer w/same os, but don't really know if it would work or not, maybe someone else here could comment on that.... )
If you have not backed up your data files, use the start up disks/cd and use a thumb/portable drive (or several) to back up your data, then work on fixing the problem.
As to the restart, it is a virus and I am very surprised your anti virus didn't catch it as this was a BIG DEAL about 8-10 months ago and all the anti virus companies had updates within several days.
This also suggests your Firewall did not stop the attack or the attack triggered a Trojan already on your computer. How often do you do a virus/spy ware scan?
Recover your data as your first and only task - then work on fixing the problem - then scan every thing before moving it back from the thumb/portable drives to your computer.
Good luck

Your best bet is to get a IDE-to-Mini IDE adapter so you can remove the hard drive from your notebook, using the adapter you can plug it into another computer that has Virus scan, and
then scan the drive and clean out the files that are infected.
If you have time, you may be able to list the infected system file or files and then replace them off the Windows CD or off another computer's Windows Directory by making copies.
If you can locate the name of the infected file which keeps re-infecting your system (usually a .exe file) you can delete it, then create a new copy of it but just an empty shell of a file with the same name - and make the file "read-only" so when the virus tells the system to run that .exe file, it won't execute and can't be re-contaminated or re-created with the same name - then the virus is stopped from re-spreading.
Good Luck !

In the F8 boot list, do you have the option 'disable automatic restart on system error' or something along those lines? if you do, select it and you should get a blue error screen at some point. get the details from that and do a search on google or on here (Y.A) using those details. if you dont get that option in the boot menu, and none of the other options work like safe mode, the next thing you could try is a windows repair install using the windows setup disk.

If you try f12 at startup and go into boot menu you may be able to select boot from a USB device. If so you can boot from a USB hard drive with windows already installed on it. Then if your lucky you may be able to view contents of internal HDD on computer. If this works you should take all of what you need off the internal drive and put it on the USB ard drive. Then you will have to Re install windows on the internal Hard Disc Drive, this will format the drive and kill everything on it, basically an average user will not have access to old data on the drive. After you can transfer data from USB hard drive at your leisure. Take care though cos if virus is active on the internal hard drive it may corrupt the USB drive too. Give it a go though.
