My girlfriend and I love each other very much and have talked about marriage. She is Black, and I'm White, and my parents have old Southern attitude about interracial marriage. Theey have never met her but have told me ever since I started dating back in high school that if ever married a black person they wouldn't talk to me. They aren't against socializing with black people but draw the at marriage and having kids. I love my parents and my girfriend and don't want to lose either . What do I do ?

Depends on who is more important to you. If there is absolutely no way around it (which there is) I would choose your parents. They are your blood, more like you are their blood though. Besides, if you did marry her, you are still their son and they love you and wouldn't just stop talking to you (atleast forever). However I do agree with them. One should stay within their own race. And I don't want to hear everybody start whining saying I'm racist, because I'm not. Just because I don't believe they should marry doesn't mean I am a racist person, so get over yourselves.

i believe they need a reality check like a lot of southerners (i am from alabama)! i see it everyday! i have 2 mixed nieces, and my sister-in-law only dates black men! it's okay! i look at it like this....we're all human...and in the bible moses married a woman outside of his race, so it should be okay!
i would sit down with your parents and your girlfriend and have a heart to heart talk with them....tell them how you truly feel about your girl, and tell your parents that it's you and your girlfriend or niether!

chose your girlfriend if you love her, regardless of what your parents believe....some parents have old belief systems and alot of them want to maintain their culture. none of this makes them bad ppl or wrong about what they believe, BUT they can't impose their thoughts their ways on their children, otherwise they are thinking only for themselves. because if they were thinking about you, you wouldn't be struggling with this. i had the same conflict a couple years ago, and i lost the relationship because i wasn't strong enough to go in to battle with my parents. even though i loved him, it wasn't enough and i lost the relationship. i went in to a depression because i knew what had happened.....i was struggling with myself. if they are reasonable rational ppl your parents will come around because you are their son; and if you should have children, they'll be around! go with your heart and don't overwork too much of your mind on this one! i can say this easily now, even though i couldn't do it, but you can make the right choice unlike me.

follow your heart. at the end of the day your parents will always be your parents so for the sake of their son they'll come around.

no need to jump the gun here, wait until you guys are ready for marriage and then cross that bridge when you get to it.

Love knows no bounds - if your parents can't see your girlfriend for the beautiful woman that she is, then it is their loss. Hopefully they they are all bark and no bite. Good luck.
