In many Native American cultures, gays were revered as having two spirits and were often medicine people, shamans and healers, because they were thought to have the powers of one gender in the body of another and that this gave them the spiritual power of both.
I also found this on wikipedia:
Two-Spirit is a term for third gender people (for example, woman-living-man) that are among many, if not most, Native American and Canadian First Nations tribes. It usually implies a masculine spirit and a feminine spirit living in the same body. It is also used by some contemporary gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex Native Americans to describe themselves. There are also native terms for these individuals in the various Native American languages.

I don't know for sure, but I'd think it to be unacceptable, seeing as their ideas of marriage are pretty strict and sacred and stuff. I have a friend that's Indian and that's how her and her parents are.
It's just a guess.
You're talking about Indians from, uh, India, right? I was confused because you added the "American". If you mean "Native American", then, yeah, I have.
Hope I was of help.
