Men often wore jackets, white shirts and ties to places where nobody would wear them today. They often wore - like - gray dress pants, jacket and gray felt hat. Dress shoes were similiar to what men's classic dress shoes are today. In Summer they'd wear the classic short-sleeved shirt (with a tie) and Summer pants that were kind of baggy.
Women often wore those "classic" housedresses that had short sleeves, a thin belt around the waist, and buttons down it (as if it were a shirt). When they went out they would wear dresses that were mid-calf and suits with skirts of that length. There were sharp collars, little bow-ties, and other angular accents on the clothing much of the time. Women wore little hats that sat on top of their head because they were like wide headbands with net or other decorations on them. They also wore brimmed hats that had a more modern cut to them than, say, just a sun hat of today.
Little girls wore dresses to school. They usually had short sleeves and were fitted at the waist. The length was just below the knee, and they would be ironed and starched with every washing. They were often cotten and plaid or some other print. Many had no collars or white collars. On Sundays and other special occasions little girls wore nylong dresses with a lot of ruffles, and they were stiff and scratchy when the girl moved. Classic shoes were being worn then - black patent leather with straps.
Little boys wore dress shirts and dress pants to school.
Teenager-girls had ponytails, wore below-the-knee skirts that were full and "good for dancing". They wore capri pants, sweaters that fit well (rather than being big and baggy). Skirts and sweaters and (I think) bobbi-socks with (maybe) black and white oxfords. loafers, or suede capezios (subject to your fact-checking on the shoes).
