My favorite general purpose starter site is http://magic.about.com. This can get you started.

http://www.magicsam.com can tell you about any magic clubs in your area, which are another great resource.

In general, I think you'll learn best from another person, next best from a video or DVD, then from a good book or website that nicely fits your style and personality.

A good source for books for the beginner is your local library!
