Call your local library and ask them which library in your city or state has a grants information center. Every state I've lived in has one; you can use it to search a database of foundations and corporate and private donors to turn up such information such as how much they give out annually, what their specifications are (some give to individuals, some only to nonprofits; some want to give to help education, some the environment; some have deadlines and applications, some do not), and lists of who they've granted money to in the past. It's difficult to get money from a philanthropist without writing a grant unless you have some connections, but grants are pretty easy to write and even if you're not a great writer you can hire a grantwriter for like $50-$75 an hour.

Haven't heard of any. Most philanthropists create trusts, scholarship funds, or establish foundations for specific charitable giving
