If you mean touchiness, people I consider wise say it is a habit to overcome. But if you mean high awareness of other people, of feelings, of the atmosphere in a room (e.g. tense, spiritual, heavy, peaceful) then it's a wonderful quality. Troublingly, though, we live in a world where 60-80% of people are non-sensitive, so it can SEEM to be a handicap. I, for example, find all the noise pollution around me troubling. Others are more disturbed by what bombards their eyes. And so on... the commonest suffering with high sensitivity is a tendency to feel overwhelmed by overstimulating input.
Were you, perhaps, one of those teenagers who never needed other people to find something for you to do? In fact, perhaps, were (and still are) glad to get away from doing at times and just BE!? If any of these feels familiar, I suggest you might care to visit www.hsperson.com and do the self-test to see if you are a Highly Sensitive Person, and take it from there.

A very great asset.
It looks like a handicap, only when we have no control on ourselves from reacting out of the perception through sharp sensitivity !
Instead choose to act based on the need of SITUATION only, not even the subjective people, and you will discover the 'great blessing' called sensitivity !

I think it's an asset. Meaning , we live in a world were it's getting harder and harder to live in. It's brutal out there. If we allow our own sensitivity to take over from time to time ,maybe we make it a Little bit more livable for the people around us.

bunny... is correct. but, if you spend enough time by yourself, it helps to cut down on the downside. if you're speaking about yourself, rather than theoretically, you might find the following of interest. usually sensitive, artistic types are sensitive to "energies". this is definitely a double edged sword since being in touch with high vibes will uplift you much more so than is the case with the average person; but, being around low vibes can de-energize you quickly and make you feel edgy and uncomfortable. check out http://www.sahajayoga.com and if you can sense the energy from the site, and its effects upon you easily, then you are highly sensitive to energies. you must then do some research on how to protect yourself from "low vibes" which are very prevalent on earth, alas--from other people, from places, etc. by protecting yourself and doing meditation, yoga, chi kung, etc. you will be able to reach quite high states of consciousness which are usually unavailable to the "less sensitive"--the big up side. by accessing such states on a regular basis you will experience very positive changes in your life. also, check out the book *the complete idiot's guide to toltec wisdom* for reasons you will understand upon reading it. best of luck ;-)

Sensitivity is a part of your intelligence, oversensitivity is a part of what used to be called neurosis,
Sensitivity is a big asset, and a sign of intelligence.

Neither. It's a human 'sense,' like taste or smell, that some unfortunately try to smother. To be able to feel and internalize another's experience is something that sets us apart from the mechanical or artificial. It's what will separate the human mind from artificial inelligence.

The correct is answer is "Yes".
It can be either one, depending on the situation.
It can also be either one, depending on how you choose to look at it.
A great physicist noticed something when he was trying to do a test on something microscopically small - he noticed that whenever the subject was observed, it tended to change something about itself - by merely being observed it changed.
That physicist was named "Heisenberg" and he created "Heisenberg's rule of uncertainty" based on the principle described above.
I have taken his rule of uncertainty and extended it. If something can be changed by merely looking at it, then changing the way you look at it can change the way it really is.
This is what I call "Cloutman's rule of Certainty - if you want to change something, change the way you look at it and it will become more like what you see it to be"
In other words, it's all in how you choose to look at things.
Good Luck.

I am way way way too sensitive...I feel the pain of everything...friends don't even want to talk about what I feel as it is too much...
but I think that to feel nothing is to be nothing...a shell...but to feel much is to learn much...spiritually...
