They were not remarks, they were quotes. It will be a dangerous precedent if the leader of the worlds most powerful church capitulates to a threat of violence from a group that openly teaches that it's not only acceptable to kill christians, it's actually expected. Have we already forgotten that only universal condemnation stopped just such a murder only a few weeks ago? And how many such dispicable acts still take place away from the eyes of the world. Does Islam believe civilization will tolerate it's increasing use of violence indefinitely? The inhuman brutality is unavoidably suggestive of a culture of barbarity few thought could exist in todays world. We may find ourselves forced into the position of taking action against a "religion" for the first time since the middle ages. No person in their right mind wants to consider such an eventuality, but neither can the civilized world permit itself to be reduced to prey by a hoard of "religious" killers.

What credibility do the Muslims have when they threaten violence because they were called violent? When they claim they are offended by a quote made in a much broader statement by the pope, their credibility sinks even lower. Why the media hides their true agenda is beyond me. Why haven't any of the press done some research on the actual history of these fanatics? Why aren't they telling us the truth if they have. Truths like, "The crusades only happened after 400 years of Muslim persecution of the Christians in countries of the Christians. Spain, France, Germany, Italy were all victims of this centuries long infiltration and persecution.

The Muslims are still living in the seventh to eleventh centuries, which were their glory days. They have refused to keep up with the development of the rest of the world. There are a very few exceptions who cannot operate within their own countries because of religious prejudice preventing them from pursueing their skills and talents.
One more thing the news is not telling us. More Muslims die at the hands of other Muslims than in all the conflicts with other nations or religions or cultures put together.

Anyone in high ranking office, either religion, or political, needs to be careful what and how they say something. He has a right to his opinion, and he has a right to voice that opinion. Many radicals of this Islam Religion feel free to voice their opinion by calling Christians the devil. I don't see how it can be right for one religion and not another. Has the Pope said anything worse than some others have said about Christians? Yes, anyone that says anything that hurts someone else's feelings, should apologize. Lets hope and pray that the radicals of this particular religion apologize for all the chaos and threats that they delivered also.

No. I don't. I'm tired of the west tip-toeing around the extremist Muslims, and pissing all over themselves if they get annoyed. The pope has a right, and considering his position, a requirement to be critical of Islam.

I think this Pope has a lot of things for which he should apologize, so wouldn't be at surprised if he added comments about Islam to the list.

What the pope was saying was that he rejected violence committed in the name of religion. Most Muslims are peaceful people practicing a peaceful religion. He was not referring to THEM. He was referring to those who would kill others of another religion and claim that's what their religion wants them to do.

He is only apologizing out of pressure. Why should he apologize? You cant make historically accurate statements about islam? Dont be fooled by this manipulating "religion" of islam.

Yes! Definitely!
And I'm glad he did, because his remarks were tactless (at least). He is supposed to promote peace all over the world not to cause feud and anger.
Don't they have someone in Vatican to prof-read his speech?
