Some psychological research suggests that nieces and nephews of homosexuals tend to be smarter than average children...No kidding!!!

Do these findings then somehow imply that gay and lesbians are more intellegent than heterosexuals? Considering the many stigmas that oppress gay and lesbians, do homosexuals then revert to the brain for defenses in an attempt to outsmart the "other?"

Well, I've dated some pretty dumb guys, and I mean DUMB! But I have a higher IQ than both of my straight brothers. We're all from the same gene pool, and I'm 20 points higher than my smartest brother, so maybe being gay does have some link to a higher intelligence, but I wouldn't put too much faith in it until many studies have been done.

Well I wouldn't say so in my family. My brother is a card carrying Mensa member, I score above average, but so do my cousins as well. We're all fairly smart, but my brother beats us all and he's straight.
Granted, I'm the only girl among seven male cousins and one male sibling, the baby of the same generation of kids and the only homosexual. So, I guess I bunk the averages off slightly. But I am the only artist, the only lefty and the one of the same generation of kids (we're all in our fourties) who has better than perfect vision.

This is some really base logic :O)~ I kinda laughed when i read it.

The bottom line is that we are human. Intelligence varies from person to person. categories based on social segregation, such as sexual orientation, are socially constructed categories.
Human sexuality is not linear meaning this group and that group. It is on a spectrum with people filling every spot, not just making giant leaps of this or that type boxes. There was a time when ther wasn't a word to differentiate homosexuals and heterosexuals.
So, i'm really quite amused that such a notion of intelligence based on sexual orientation would be rumored to be genetic.

Now, certain social groups have more access to ways of thinking that might offer more flexibility in thinking leading to easier acquring of specific kinds of information, but even that isn't absolute. For instance, heterosexuals aren't the only group known for oppressing queer people. Queer people oppress queer people too, every day different queer hierarchies try to oppress members of other groups. So even though queer identified people are aware of systems of oppression, they might not be excersizing a capacity to apply analysis to themselves and see where they might also be applying systems of oppression to others (Bi/omni people, trans people, non-lifestyle-traditional homosexuals...etc.)

Now, to address the problem of social scientists attributing genetics to socially constructed categories of gender and sex groups:
The problem with psychology is that it examines within a specific school of thought that is often based on culture. I mean, before "gay rights" were in, psychology said that homosexuality was a pathological condition. and many psychologists are still saying that intersexes have a pathological condition, rather than just validating an intersex as a valid sex like male and female.

And there are still psychologists who speak about gender and sex as biologically connected. They ignore the fact that gender changes from culture to culture, and even over tme. And many cultures have more than two genders! But psychology is clinging to a cultural idea about gender and ignoring counter evidence which suggests it is likely socially constructed... but it benefits society's current hierarchical structure to believe otherwise so our culture's science supports the notion of biological gender.

*sigh*

I never believe things like that.
It's like saying are brown-eyed people more intelligent than blue-eyed.
I don't think one has anything to do with the other, personally.
Too inaccurate to make a conclusive decision in my opinion.
But, judging by some of the posts some homophobes make, I'd have to say we certainly don't appear to be as dumb as some heteros!!!!

no... i dont think that is true at all.
After all, I have to agree with the first post - intelligence cannot be measured in terms of academics.
I hope that is true (which means that I am smarter, lol!), but I dont think that our sexuality can influence our intelligence in any ways.
(but I cannot help noticing that they are quite lots of gays in berkeley, lol!)

yes, we are. that's why the hetero's are feeling threatened and don't want us to marry. If we can legally bonded, imagine how fast we'd be able to take over the world... that's why we are recruiting your sons and daughters to play for our team.
