check if the wire that connects your monitor to the CPU is properly connected.

I would check the Video card inside the computer. Is it possible the computer/monitor was hit by lightning? Is there an abundant dust build-up? I have an HP monitor and it often does the same thing - there is a short in the Parallel Cable that runs between the monitor and hard drive on mine. I think it took a hit of lightning, but I'm not sure. Best suggestion I could make is if at all possible, try hooking up another monitor to the PC, if that corrects the problem, then your monitor is toast. If not, I would try having the Video Card replaced inside the CPU. Best Buy and Circuit City offer computer repairs and are fairly reasonable in price. Good luck!

This is a common error with HP comp I guess. It had happened to me. The cable might not be connected properly or there is something wrong with the Video Graphics card. It'll shut by itself cause it's saving electricity for you.
That's all.

Also try turning off the power to everything. shut the computer down and then either flip the switch on your surge protector or unplug everything then try starting it back up.
