Yes, in central Oregon, where I live there are several local herds, the most famous being the Kiger Mustangs. Also herds of burros and horses in Nevada, California, and other western states. Many are adopted and we did own one and another that was half Kiger Mustang. To find out more about them get on the BLM website or the website of Steve Rother, a natural horseman who has worked with BLM to gentle the mustangs. Many mustangs now are being used all over the world by endurance riders.

Parts of Nevada, Arizona and Colorado do. On the Indian reservations in New Mexico, some do have wild horses roaming as well.

Yes, the mustangs in the Midwest are rounded up every year and a few selected get adopted out, but only to trainers, or horse owners who have taken the proper cautions.
Also, there are the Chincoteague and Assateague ponies. They live totally isolated off the coast of Maryland. They also get rounded up every year for adoptions.
I have also heard of a few horses here and there that live free and wild out in the country here. I'm sure they were pets at one point, but who knows if that's true anyway.

Yes there are mustangs and domesticated gone wild horses roaming the "west." They are supposed to be under the care of the BLM but I don't think they are really doing their job the right way.

No, not really. But you should visit the eastern shore area of Virginia and Maryland. Because there are islands there, the wild horses are protected.
