Smoke 'em. That's right, smoke. Burn lightly some dried leaves at night in places where crickets usually hangout. Smoke tends to block the external sensory organs of the cricket.

Why would you want to do that? Chirping crickets is a very relaxing sound to most people. It sure beats barking dogs.

There really isn't a good way as the sound intensifies when they mate. As for the shotgun freaks...One thing I do know it is VERY BAD karma to kill a cricket as they are considered LUCKY in many Asian cultures!

Yell at them and tell them to stop. You may have to do this several times but they stop for a brief time between shouts.
