You can make a costume out of just about anything.

Right now I'm making a costume for my daughter from a pair of footie pajamas and felt patches (she's going to be a spotted puppy). The entire thing is costing me less than $10.

Take a large piece of cardboard and cut a hole in the center for the head to go through. Cover with an old table cloth with a matching hole in the center. Glue together. On top of the table cloth, glue paper plates, plastic forks and spoons and napkins. Should be quick, easy, and cute. Good luck.

My kids use to love going as hobo's

I would take an old pr of jeans--fray the bottoms of the jeans and add brightly colored patches with large white stitches....

I would take a solid color blouse or tee shirt and sew brightly colored patches on it with large stitches also.

then I would buy some Halloween makeup and paint their faces white, darken the eyebrows, take the red makeup and make a clown smile, and tip the nose red.

for accessories--you can go to wal-mart and buy a big plastic cigar, or a plastic derby (hat).

to complete this---take a stick, put some rags in a red bandanna and tie it to the end of the stick...now the hobo has his belonging and is ready to go.

Boxes painted or colored to be many things such as a camera, present, ups delivery. Balloons glued to a old t-shirt and sweats to look like a bunch grapes or jelly beans. Tye dye t-shirts for a seventy's look. My favorite from Family fun magazine a few years ago is glue either fake or real leaves to some old clothes to look like a pile of leaves, works better with a red sweat suit with hood. Good luck.

Stop by the public library and browse the costume books they'll have on display this month. There should be some good ideas.
