Pot is illegal in the USA. Should it be? I feel that most of the problems with it come because it is illegal. Would you support the legalization? (Note I do not smoke pot but I do have friends that do. I also do not advocate minors with pot.)

It should be legalized. There is really no reason I can think of that alcohol is legal and pot is not. People will do it anyway, so why should we waste police $, jail $, tax $ on "the war on drugs" for Pot users when it is pretty much comparable to drinking alcohol.

Now if it were made legal, not only would the country save a ton of money in prisons and law enforcement, but we could also tax the bajesus out of it. Making it illegal just spreads corruption because people are gonna do it anyways. Think Prohibition.

I do not believe that it should, I don't think people that use it are a major threat they are usually people who in the long run do not contribute anything to society. I have been to Amsterdam and I believe that a good portion of the people hanging around the "coffee rooms" are just unemployed losers that the dutch government is paying welfare to.

I also don't like the the argument that goes"if you make it legal than you will have less crime" If you make stealing illegal than you will have less crime just because the majority of crime has to do with drugs that is not going to stop if you make 1 thing legal (i.e. if pot is legal the drug traffickers would step up their crack trade)

How would we regulate it the FDA bans drugs that we find dangerous such as ephedrine and if they don't the companies that make drugs get sued (Vioxx) pot could not survive in this economy as a cash crop.

I would support legalization. I feel that the government has no right to tell me that I cannot alter my consciousness. Why is alcohol legal but Marijuana not? Both will alter your consciousness. Nobody has ever died of a Marijuana overdose. Yes, there would be a problem if you were a chronic smoker, but then again, so would drinking. Not only that people are being killed, jailed, their lives ruined because of the war on drugs. The reason we have such a big prison population is because of drug laws. It is not the Government's responsibility to save us from ourselves. It is our own.

marijuana should be legalized first because its a naturally occuring substance second. you can treat it like alcohol. lastly. the government and the drug czar together always run to big brother and tell him we need milions and millions and millions of dollars to eradicate all drugs and tell people how to live. so while they pocket money from this "black project" and have society point the finger at the humble red eyed monks of america we have to suffer by hiding out and being sneaky just to attain happines. YES LEGALIZE MARIJAUANA!!! -Knowledgable pot head. Peace to Norml.org and Erowid.com , the UK ,New Zealand And GOD Im out.

it should be, it had many medicinal properties also it would sure free up the prisons of non violent offenders.

if alcohol is legal i mean and that stuff is horrible why is marijuana still? companies could reap the rewards of chipping in creating so much from this element.

who knows.. it's terrible how this herb has been considered harmful.

To answer this question, I suggest that you read about the countries who had legalized marijuana (in Europe; will make it more interesting by not naming them).

Live and learn.

It might as well be! I do not partake myself, but it would free up the jails with non-violent offenders, which costs lots of money! Instead, it could be taxed and be a source of revenue.

YES, and so should other drugs... make them cheap so those who wish to kill themselves with drugs can do so without resorting to crime as a means to fulfill their drug wants....

Also, the government should stop taxing drugs... that would make the lefties whine... waaaaaaahhh....... waaaaaahhhh...... we want your money... other people's money.

No!
I don't want to put my life in the hands ( many professions)
of anyone smoking that junk.
I don't want my children or grandchildren smoking that junk, and then graduating to something that is illegal , addictive or could kill them.

ALL drugs, not just pot. Take the profit motive away and there will be less violent crime.
