Yes & no.

Culturally, but more in the begining than in the end, they were mostly real magnents to screaming young girls barely out of thier pre-teens. Towards the end, however, thier image became more revolutionary & appealed more to the more mature audiences as well.

Musically, especially towards the end, I'd say they were a little more "Involved" than most typical "Boy-bands" tend to be, as they wrote, preformed, & produced thier own music rather than have some swanky record exec assemble them together at random & tell them what to do in order to make them all "Pop-Stars" in thier own rights.

Beatles as in a "boy band"? Like in N'Sync, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys??
Come on!! The Beatles played instruments as they sing. They wrote their own songs. They did not dance on the stage in a perfect choreography! They were not all pretty faces like Nick Carter. They were not put together by a record company. They were friends who played together in a BAND. (If they wanted all pretty faces, they would have kept Pete Best who were better looking that Richard Starkey aka Ringo Starr.)

REVEALED: THE FIRST BOY BAND
Nae regrets
Billy Sloan

AS you know, I hate all pop boy bands... with one notable exception.

I'm a fan of The Walker Brothers, who notched up a string of hits in the Sixties. The US trio - Scott, John and Gary - were pop's original boy band.

They looked cool and made brilliant records. Not something you could say about Westlife or McFly.

Now their classic songs are set to reach a new generation with the release of a 21-track compilation, The Best Of Scott Walker And The Walker Brothers.

It features No. 1 hits The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore and Make It Easy On Yourself, plus No Regrets and My Ship Is Coming In.

The trio have rejected big-money offers to tour. But John said: "Never say never... none of us is dead yet.

"I look at boy groups today and am not impressed. Record companies have a formula - you look this way and act that way and we'll take care of the music. "We chose our material and produced our records."

They sold 23 million records but many fans still don't realise is Scott Engel, John Maul and Gary Leeds aren't brothers.

They last performed together in 1967 after which Scott refused to tour. He lives in London and is about to release album The Drift - his first in 11 years.

John said: "Scott has a great voice but I've never heard him sing on stage. The girls' screams drowned us out.

"We've not spoken in five years." John last played in Scotland in 2004 as part of a Sixties show which brought back memories of early gigs with The Troggs, Jimi Hendrix and Roy Orbison.

He said: "It was always out of hand but in Glasgow it got REALLY crazy.

No. The term didnt exist up until the 90's, but the first known boy band was the new kids on the block.

HAHAHA. the way i see it, boy bands are groups of little wannabe losers that can't(or won't) even play instruments in their own freakin' songs. so the answer to your question is a huge resounding NO.
