There would probably be no terrorist problem, because they wouldn't have the weapons and money that WE gave them. I'm sure they could have found the resources elsewhere, but not as fast or all at once. Helping Afghanistan (and bin Laden, I think he was a military leader in the region at the time) fight against the Russians was possibly the worst mistake that the United States has ever made.

the whole world is a mess and always has been. the US has screwed up plenty of times in the past, and has also done tons of great things. but, no matter what, there will always be problems and there will always be a chance that we'll do something that (even if it seems like a great idea at the time) will turn out to be a big mistake.

if there wasnt a problem in afghanistan, iraq, russia, india, iran, korea, etc, there would be one somewhere else. most of the world has been messed up since before recorded history. its just the way humans are.

but, yeah, even if we wouldnt have given bin laden weapons, i'm sure that he still would have been someone's problem, and we'd have some other nutcase to deal with right about now.

America did not help Afghanistan. It helped the terrorist by financing the Bin Laden group. Now, the world is harvesting the seeds planted by America in Afghanistan.

Russia does have a terrorist problem.

We are the ones who trained Osama Bin-Laden and gave him weapons. Then we screwed-over Afghanistan (before we screwed them over this time) and made Bin-Laden mad.

Up until then, his family was very friendly with the Bush family. Pres. Bush's father used to stay at the house of Bin-Laden's father whenever he visited Saudi Arabia.

The terrorist have a purely anti american stance. The war is about america wanting oil and the arabs wanting the yanks to get out of their face.As russia was supposedly america's enemy why would they be terrorised.

Nope. Terrorists are born by a system and the tussle between interests of US and Russia provided a healthy breeding ground for such breeding.

Russia would basically own Afghanistan and it would have just been another war-torn country because the Arab countries would somehow try to take over it again.

America gave money and weapons to Ben Laden to fight that war and after the cold war was over they left the man in the mountains.
