When I hookup my speakers, I get a loud humming sound. I don't get any audio playback. Is it my sound card?

Easiest way to troubleshoot your card is to stick a headset into your earphone jack. If you hear sound - it's not your card.

Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Volume Control.
Options
Properties
Playback
go down and check all the selections
OK
Mute (Line in, and Microphone) and try muting all the others one by one to find out which one has the error.
If this doesn't help, then it is your sound card...

I think you plugged or plugging it into the wrong one. The humming sound is just distorted feedback. Green is for speakers.
