Ok music lovers & assorted music trivia nerds, who do you think are the most important bands of the 20th and 21st first centuries?

Put down as many bands/artists as you like, but be sure to JUSTIFY why you put them down. For example: Dont just write: "The Beatles" and nothing else, give some justification.

The best list and justification gets the points.

Ack -- for the points, huh?

Louis Armstrong and his Allstars -- bringing New Orleans jazz into the main stream.

Duke Ellington -- I won't insult you with an explanation.

Miles Davis -- brings cool jazz with his album Kind of Blue - again, the mainstream world learns of Bill Evans and John Coltrane

Nat King Cole Trio -- he was so popular he was the first African - American to have a television show -- in the 1950's!

Ike Turner and his Rhythm Kings -- recorded Rocket 88, the first rock and roll record

Sigh, I guess Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan were basically solo acts.

The Beatles -- and I'll lump them with The Who and The Kinks and just call it an invasion.

James Brown and his band -- Funk, funk, funk -- inspires great bands like The Gap, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Sly and the Family Stone

The Jackson Five and the Osmond Brothers make bubble gum pop okay to enjoy.

The Monkee's have the number one song of 1969 -- Sugar Sugar, a very depressing day but tips the topper to such pop acts like Herman's Hermits and Sonny and Cher.

Cream -- the first super group.

Sex Pistols -- tells rock and roll to &()^%% off

Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions -- Superfly and Freddies Dead, super cool urban pimp music.

Guns and Roses -- reminds us what rock is all about.

Stevie Ray Vaughn -- reminds us what blues/rock is all about.

1995 -- Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise

After that -- just a bunch of crap. ******* like John Mayer and Moby and Britney Spears -- all solo acts. Ludacris and Snoop Dogg just reference past stylings.

Smash ups -- I know it's not a band, but it's the most interesting thing to come along in ... ten years.

The The Beatles they changed the face of music in so many ways. From their imperfect music delivery to their innovative musical style and lyrics that changed as the members matured. Alice Cooper for pushing the envelope. Marc Bolin and T Rex for bringing glam rock to the mainstream. Nirvana for doing the same for grunge. I also feel that super groups such as Crosby, Stills ,Nash and Young and Asia greatly influence sound by combining greatly different talents into on unique sound. Groups such as the Eagles contribute to the country influence in rock. And forerunner teen stars such as Donny Osmond David Cassidy and many others lead to today's pop stars. As for the sound of soul I think that Steve Wonder is a true pioneer with his eclectic sound that changed with the times. I also can hear the sounds first used by Sly and the Family Stone in many modern soul singers of today.

Hopefully none will as most are crap. I hope timeless music such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Metallica, AC/DC etc will be major influences. Do we really need bands influenced by Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance; they would be even worse than said bands. I hate to say it, but I think those two bands will be the big influences.
