Interestingly enough, they were in "Muppets Take Manhatten." Sesame Street and the Muppet Show were both Jim Hensen productions. Steve Whitmire did the voice of both Kermit and Ernie. Kermit was a muppet. Bert and Ernie were puppets, so never made it on the Muppet Show.

Bert and Ernie are homebodies living on Sesame Street...Im sure the other muppets invited the two now and then to the show, but those two lazy burnouts rarely ever leave the apartment....too busy having bubble baths with rubber ducky and counting pigions....

Bert & Ernie had an exclusive, long-term contract with Sesame Street that precluded them from appearing in any other production without written permission. They were routinely denied permission to do so after they were caught en flagrante dilecto with Miss Piggy, but the Pigster got out of it by blackmailing the producers with photos of them and Big Bird doing the nasty. (Ironic, eh?) Apparently she thought little enough of Bert & Ernie's performance that she didn't include them in her little scheme. It was all very hush-hush.

they got greedy with their contracts & tried to negotiate higher pay but Jim told them he didn't think they were as essential to the show as they thought themselves to be....
