If your computer is used by more than one person, you can set up user accounts. Make your profile the administrator and every the others limited. Then you can create password protection which will in turn lock out computer files and folders. The other users may still view most of these, but cannot change them.
To do this click start, Control Panel, User Accounts, Create User Accounts.
To create passwords, in User Accounts, go to Modify accounts, click on the account, Create password.

I think it can't "password" protect a folder from Windows explorer. You may use like CRYPTAINER LE for this purpose. It's been tested (I've used it as far as year 2000), and also it's easy to use.
Another software is FOLDERLOCK. But does not work with another program, ACTIVE@ UNDELETE together...

Well you could use encryption software like StompSoft's Digital Vault to encrypt and password protect your files. Though if your looking for a simpler (and weaker) fix you might want to try using Winzip which you can password protect. Other than that there are freeware applications that may do the trick as well.

Microsoft had a free product called My Private Folder for a few days that is pretty slick... it was pulled because IT people complained.
You could try out encryption software such as Truecrypt (its free). Its supposed to encrypt a partition or disk (such as USB stick) though I have yet to try it. You can read about it here: http://www.download.com/TrueCrypt/3000-2092_4-10527242.html?tag=lst-0-1
Hope this helps.
