DNA Replication......Two strands of the DNA helix separate and each one is used as a template to make a new, complimentary strand. The enzyme that helps synthesize this process is called DNA polymerase. DNA replication is semiconservative. The new duplex DNA is composed of the original and new strand and it is always added in the 5' to 3' direction. DNA replication is important for life.

The source below summarizes it in great detail.

It's important for the very reason that you stated. DNA must replicate for cells to divide, if the cells don't divide then organisms will not grow or live very long because new cells would not be made to replace dying ones.

DNA replication is important because its is needed for cell repair and growth.

DNA replication is just the DNA chain unwinding with the help of an enzyme (helicase).
Once fully unwinded, a primer attaches to the strand and then a DNA pol with attach to the primer and start to synthesis on the templates.

A binds to T and G binds to C. A adenine T thyrosine G guanine C Cytocine, Double helix. DNA protein synthesase and RNA transcription cannot be summaried. Too complex.
