No!
If the President tries to do something , he shouldn't, It is cancelled along the way by house of Rep. or supreme court or another branch of the government, too numerous too mention.
We also have strong two party system!
It is called Checks and Balances ,set up by the original Congress in 1776.
We have what no other nation has. No one division can get access power . and certainly , not enough to become a dictatorship!
In fact there is so many checks, it is a wonder anything is ever accomplished.

In my opinion they all do, why do we need any government body to change the constitution in its already perfect form? We live in a world where our president has the power to listen to our private conversations and he obtained that power in a very short time. What next? In ten more years we will be lucky to be able to walk down the street without being monitored my some government agency and they are all in on it together the disagreements that they have with each other have become worse than watching wwf. Wake up America and go vote independant or libertarian or pot smokers party or something that is the only legal way to send a message to our government.

At this point in time the President has to much power, with a repuglican majority in congress and a supreme court stacked with conservatives it is highly likely that we are as close to a dictatorship as we have ever been, I hope that the democrats take back a majority in one or both of the houses so that we can restore checks and balance to the government if they don't all we can do is hold our breath for two years and hope the Bush does not do any more stupid things.

Today, they ALL have too much power, and they sell it to the highest bidder. Lobbyists, big-money contributors, and foreign governments control the US. The average US citizen has about as much voice in government as does an ant in an aardvark colony.
But this COULD change. But to change it will take a third party, because the Reps and Dems are too enamoured of their control to ever give it up.

That is why we have a system of Checks and Balances to prevent any federal agency or branch of the military to try seizing power to form a dictatorship. Everybody keeps an eye on everybody.

Obviously the Executive Branch of the government has high-jacked the other two. The consequences of this imbalance of power will make things very hard in the years to come.

Obviously in this current Administration this President and his cronies think they are above the law. And the Congress lets him get away with it.

This President declared a war under false pretense and without going through the proper channels (congress). I think that shows he has way too much power and it makes me incredibly nervouse.
