the UN as well as the majority of politicians across the globe have a legal responsibility to the people of africa to stick to their words and fulfil their promises. yes 9/11 was a terrible tragedy, yes thousands died in the wreckage and yes innocent lives were lost but its not just people in the west who have suffered- africa, more specifically zimbabwe which has turned into a crap hole and south africa, of whom because of tarbo mbeki's incompetence is turning that country into the new zimbabwe almost overnight.

i think that because it is africa and we are 'talking about black lives' here blair, bush and the UN are unwilling to intervene just in case they are stirring up racial tensions and being labelled racist themselves. but what they don't realise was in past history it was western countries that invaded the african continent and looted the place for gold and other things and made blacks slaves.

and remember it was the old conservative government under margaret thatcher that stood back and did nothing whatsoever to stop the south african apartheid regime but to support it. now its labour themselves and this time its not south africa but zimbabwe. though of course to blair, bush and the rest of the UN, zimbabwe has nothing of real worth to them- no WMDs, nuclear weapondary, gold, which is why they are stupid. and alas what about the so-called african saint bob geldof and bono preaching and urging us to give them the f***ing money, when there has been no condemnation of robert mugabe and his shameful government and regime by them. hypocritical that's what.

i find all this rather sad and ridiculous really. and to think that blair, bush, the UN, geldof, bono etc care about africa when they have not spoken out against mugabe and the way he has treated his people, shows what a bunch of hypocrites they are and what a lousy job they've done on saving africa- if that's what they call it. and sorry but throwing aid doesn't solve everything overnight.

as for the answer to that question, there will be thousands upon thousands more deaths, there's no doubt about it. they messed up big time with the rwandan genocide in 1994, and with the current crisis in zimbabwe, until they do something, the west and the world will see a repeat of this destruction-only with that southern african state.

Yeah, there does seem to be a point to be made. Of course, the third world countries many times do not allow the UN or other Nations to come in and help. Like Sudan, that has begun attacking the Darfur region again and is refusing to allow UN troops or anyone outside of the money and staff starved AU. South Africa is rebounding, however slowly. I think Europe has a lot to answer for when it comes to Africa, they colonized, separated, and turned the Africans on each other. Then in the 20th century, they granted independence to the nations and bailed on them.

I hear you. Maybe if South Africa and Zimbabwe had oil then the 1st world would take interest. In the meantime 100's will die daily if not thousands. I am not saying that the 1st world should come running to our aid but help would not be overlooked in these regards especially when it comes to human rights.

Iraq was a non-threat.

Zim & RSA, very different fish.

South Africa is open, friendly & full of hope (& top totty!).

Zim is a beautiful country populated by small, thin people, with little hope. Its a tragedy. Since independence prices have gone up by over 1000 000 percent (approx..). If you want petrol you normally have to push your car (I got caught out in Vickie Falls 3 yrs ago) in a queue which takes 3 days to get to the front...some people make their living out of 'car sitting'...

Unfortunately RSA keeps Mugabe in power & now the Chinese are in the country...

Lets kill Mugabe. Its time Zimbabwe REALLY became independent!

Absolutely!

Or take Hurricaine Katrina. Compare 1,900 dead to 14 million people each year who die from malnutrition (World Health Organization).

Hurricaine Katrina and the Wrold Trade Center attacks are incredibly tragic, but most people in the US have no idea of the tragedy endured every day by billions the world over.

Point taken,
Presently, you cannot categorise South Africa with Zimbabwe.
South Africa - is the most stable/economically vibrant country in the african continent.

Zimbabwe is an abomination, but in truth the US Gov't has no delegated authority (Constitutionally speaking) to impose itself militarily on any other sovereign country that is a non-threat.

Nothing will be done against the Mugabe regime because Zimbabwe doesn't produce anything that the US is short of.
