Hands down I say Bob Dylan for "musician" and The Beatles for "musicians." Dylan's prophetic songwriting has made him iconic among music lovers like myself and after 40 years of making music, that man's still got it! And the combo of Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison was the best combinations of musicians ever. All three were incredibly gifted songwriters and constantly blew the competition out of the water during the 60's and 70's.

Bob Dylan is at the top of my list. I am 44, he has been playing since before I was born.
He, along with the Beatles were the most influential musicians, songwriters of the 60's, and our lifetimes.
And he just came out with a really good album, which is also a besteller.
He is still creating great music, not just hanging around. He is incredible.
To me its a no brainer, Bob Dylan!

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, hands down.

They went from rock to jazz, and the result was such a smooth combination of the two it is unprecedented in quality today.
