Thanks for leaving the question open ended we need more of those... instead of biased ones.
Top Nation? In some ways certainly, in other ways no.
America's government tends to be very foreign-country-unfriendly. No matter what side of the fence the president is from. To be the "best" implies that more than half of the world likes you. We're certainly far from that. But is it better to do what's "right" or what's "accepted? Some say that even though most people dislike it we should still do it because it's right? So majority doesn't matter? So democracy isn't what we're spreading?
In my opinion, it's not the best country in the world. I don't think I could choose best country. America's ideas are great, the people and government suck though.
PS don't tell me to leave the country if I don't like it. America's for free thinkers and there are people on both sides of the fence. Freedom of speech, thought, and expression. DEAL WITH IT!

YES, But here is why:
1. America offers the most options and oppurtunity than any country in the world. You are free to live the way you wish and you can do anything that you like in this country every person born in this country can become either President of the US or president of a large corporation or they can just live their lifes doing what they enjoy.
2. America is the most giving country in the world, look at what the US gives to other countries in their time of need usually more than half of the worlds donations come from the United States.
3. America has provided security, and has saved more countries from war than any other country. Although the French hate us it is the United States who gave them back their country, it was the United States who held tough in the cold war and has broken down the walls between East and West Europe and given them all freedom. While liberal kooks call us an imperialistic country after we have defeated countries such as Japan and Germany we have rebuilt them and made them into economic power houses 3rd and 4th in the world I believe.
4. America is the most inovative country in the world this is because of Freedom, more than half of all patents have gone to those in the US.
I have been to other parts of the world and it is always nice to see the other cultures that are all unique but you need to realize that here you can have whatever traditions that you enjoy and you can add new ones that you discover we are not forced to live in a certain way and that is the way it should be.

I would have to say you are pretty close. In terms of military power, love of freedom, patriotism, and generosity to less fortunate countries I would say you guys are the best. In terms of looking after your own (ghettos, Katerina, race relations) I think there is a way to go. As a Canadian, I admire much about your country, but you guys have many of the same faults we have. ( impoverished First Nations People, ghettos, child poverty, bigotry, illiteracy). Did you know there is zero illiteracy in several Scaninavian countries? Lots of areas for we North Americans to improve upon.

This is a great country but we don't have all the answers. It would be dumb to think that we have all the answers to everything. There are so many different factors that it is hard to say. The happiest people in the world however live in Vanuatu Islands.

It is one of the top nations, but certainly it is falling in prestige and stature under the current administration. I'm afraid the days of the hegemonic US are over, and it's no one's fault but ours due to fake wars, campaigns of fear, religious fanaticism, and an economy entirely dependent on foreign loans.
