My 9 1/2 month old son no longer likes to drink formula. Up until a few weeks ago he was fine, but now it's a struggle to get him to drink it well. He takes a bottle mid-afternoon and before bed just fine, but breakfast and supper are turning into a waste of formula.
Is this something other babies have done? He's eating everything else just the same as normal. He's teething but he's been teething since 4 months. He has 8 teeth in and is working on more, but his appetite has never changed before with teeth coming in.

Yes, he's drinking some diluated apple juice. Water now and then but not as much now that it's not so hot out.
He's eating about the same amount; he's switching to more table food and less baby food so it's hard to judge.
No fever or illness, and he's not rubbing his ears or pulling them to indicate they hurt. He's acting just fine other than the formula rejection.

my daughter did the same thing have you tried to give him juice something new for him to try if not try him on vitamin d milk to start him out on it mix the milk with the formula instead of the water you put into it put the milk in it instead and see how he likes it if he likes the taste and takes to it slowly keep him on that mixture for a week then lower how much formula you put into the bottle by a scoop each time and then within about a month he should be on whole milk try giving him juicy juie also dilute it down half water half juice and then when he gets used to that then you can start using less water and more juice. if you would like you can e-mail me if you have anymore questions my e-mail Addy is callmebabyk@yahoo.com i have a 16 month old daughter and went through the same thing so feel free to e-mail me.

It is pretty normal. Try giving it to him in a cup maybe. If he doesn't like it, ask his doc about whole milk with a vitamin supplement. But, 2 bottles a day for a 9 1/2 month old it perfectly fine! He should be cutting back, especially if he is getting juice or water in a cup. Just make sure he is getting enough liquid.

Formula is very filling, and if he's eating a lot of regular food, he could be too full for a bottle. I've heard that as long as they're getting 28 oz a day, it's ok. I would cut out the juice and see if it helps (juice is bad for the teeth anyway). Don't put him on regular milk without asking your doctor, though, since it can cause long-term kidney problems (goat milk is even better, since it's hypo-allergenic).

Babies and toddlers offen go through times where their appetites aren't as strong. Since breastmilk or formula is supposed to be the main food source for the first year (75% of calories) I would suggest cutting back on solid foods. Milk at this age is much more important, that's where they get their nutrients from. Solid food at this age isn't for nutrition but more for getting them used to tastes and textures. To make sure that he's getting enough milk that is what I would suggest. Here's a helpful website too. God Bless

I think he is old enough to start drinking normal milk from a cup. Just give him his formula when he wants it in the afternoon and at night. He should be eating well now so he doesnt need formula as much as a young baby.

That happens sometimes during teething. Have you tried offering it in another way, like a sippy cup? or mixing it into his cereal to make sure he gets the vitamins? Sometimes they decide after learning about other flavors that formula is boring, have you thought of mixing it with some apple juice?
If all else fails and you are worried ask his Dr. just to make sure he's not missing key nutrients in his diet.

My daughter is 11 months and has been drinking whole milk for almost a month now. She's doing fine. Just make sure your baby eats good at meal times. Just a few cups of milk a day should be fine for him as long as he eats well. Good Luck!

my son did the same thing and our doc told me to cut back on the solid food. i did and he still won't take his formula even if i put it in his cup. didn't want nothing to do with it. so i just kept offering it to him and when he wouldn't take it i gave him milk instead. i have a friend who is a nurse and i asked her about it and she told me that he wasn't getting full on the formula anymore and wanted some real food. so i cut out his formula all together and just kept him happy with baby food and juice and milk. he is perfectly fine. so just do whatever you have to do to make sure he gets his belly full.

More questions? Is he drinking diluated juices? Is he eating more food than normal? Is he running fever? Sometimes babies do not like to swallow when they have sore throats or ear infections?
