Downy dryer sheets. They don't leave a perfumy residue while leaving a subtle scent. I prefer the dryer sheets because I don't like the way the liquid softner cakes up in the softner spot in the washer and just adds another chore to my already full cleaning regime.

Downy liquid. I think sheets leave a sticky film on fabric. Liquid also smells better.

i use both. i love the way liquid downy makes my clothes smell, but it doesn't help with the static. so i throw a bounce dryer sheet in too.

i do not use fabric softener...except for towels and sheets.....In college i had textiles classes and we learned that liquid fabric softeners are a coating (can be waxy)....this can build up over time, set stains and ruin good fabrics... i DO use the dryer sheets for static and smell...ANYTHING with the GAIN scent...WOW!...good luck!
