Soldiers fighting in the front line trenches had to endure Many many unpleasent things.

First off was the Mud. They slept in it, ate in it, fought in it. The much was horrible, and when it got wet it actually became a hazard. Aside from an unstable groudn to walk on, the soldiers would actually sink in it.

secondly was disease. When a soldier was shot or killed there was no way to carry the bodies away, so they bodies of fellow soldiers had to be kept in the trenches with the live soldiers. This caused disease and all sorts of unsanitary things.

thirdly with dead bodies came the things that decompose them! Rats, mice, flys, all sorts of bugs and animals infested the trenches.

Fourthly Obviously gunfire from the opposition. Constant fire from the enemy, artillery shells going off, its like trying to sleep at a rock concert!

Fifthly was lack of adiquate supplies. Being stuck in trenches and not haveing good food to eat......... yuck...... the soldiers would have done cartwheels for some pizza........
