Newton is kg m/sec^2 which is a measure of weight.

Grams are a measure of mass.

The answer is newton. Gram is the metric unit of mass, not weight, not to mention the fact that the answer is supposed to be 6 letters long, not 4.

Metric unit for weight is NEWTON. Kilogram is metric unit for mass-quantity of matter in an object- often confused with weight. When you hold an object of 0.102 kg in your hand, its weight will be one newton.

Since the metric system started in France, perhaps the crossword puzzle is being tricky and means "gramme"? If so, boo on the crossword puzzle for being tricky AND inaccurate, as they should have used mass instead of weight.

good luck!

edit: the newton is NOT a unit of weight or mass, but a unit of force acting on a mass.

As (almost) all the previous answers said, you're looking for grams. What I didn't see in any of them is the fact that grams are actually the unit for mass, not weight. As long as you're staying on-planet, though, it doesn't make any practical difference.
