That is your cervix and your babies head against it. It is completely normal and some women get it for a month or more before their due dates. It can be highly painful and in my opinion almost worse than a contraction! Your cervix is thinning and that is good but it is probably still facing up and back which gives that little head ample room to rub on all of the ultra sensitive nerves in your cervix. I know this is small consolation, but it is a good sign. It means your baby is working his or her way down.
I found a knee chest position helpful. Literally on my knees with my chest to the ground and that helped take the pressure a bit.
Good luck, you will have your baby soon.

You really need to go to the hospital. Some women can dialate quicker than others and you may be ready to give birth. If you are having that much pain there maybe something wrong. If you know that you are not having contractions then it must be something else causing the pain. Better to be safe then sorry.

Some stabbing pain is ok. It is just your cervix dialating. When I was pregnant with my son, I swore he was trying to kick his way out! If you start having regular contractions, call your doctor. Laying down with your legs slightly elevated will help. But when in doubt call your doctor.
