It's actually very easy to install a NIC (network interface card) in a computer.

If you are using Microsoft WIndows, you will need to check the Hardware Compatability List (HCL) to see what brands are able to work properly with the version of windows you are using.

I recommend that you to the following webpage for the Products Designed for Microsoft Windows – Windows Catalog and HCL:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx

You can also purchase the equipment via this webpage, by clicking on the link to the Windows Marketplace.

Microsoft has provided easy-to-follow instructions, making the installation procedure a breeze for anyone.

Just read article - Install a wired internal network adapter, at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/netadapter.mspx#4

Good luck!

You should be fine once you get the Network/Ethernet card and install it. The card is easy to install, just plug it into a PCI slot in the computer. Then just set up the dsl modem and plug the ethernet cable from the modem to the computer and you should be up and running with DSL.

IT's easy. They cost like 10 bucks, just ask for a PCI Ethernet card, put it into a PCI slot on the motherboard (You'll have to open up the case and move some cables around, perhaps. Might want to have a semi-experienced friend help you do that), install any drivers, and plug it in and it should work fine.

a network card is for networks, not dsl.

if you're trying to connect his computer to the internet physically at work then you'll need a pci network card and obviously the expertise to add this computer to the network etc.

if it's just someone from work who want's their personal pc setup to access the internet from home then apart from an isp account you'll need either a cable modem or xDSL modem, whatever is compatible with your internet service provider.

you should really contact them because they'll be able to tell you exactly what is required to get connected.

EDIT: no, dsl and an ethernet are completely different. buying one of thoe cards won't help.

The computer needs a network card .. very easy to install if you don't have one installed. You also need DSL/CABLE into the place you are connection. From the DSL modem connect the cable to the computer netork card you installed..
