Not totally necessary if the child is breast feeding. If the child is on formula and food then they will be getting enough vitamins in that depending on the health value of the food they are given. You can purchase vitamin drops for babies at health food stores or pharmacy.

My son's pediatrition reccomended that he go on a vitamin drop called 'Poly-Vi-Sol' or something like that. He was a breastfed baby, and she said that certain nutrients are only found in very small amounts in breastmilk. Once he was switched to formula, he was taken off of the drops.
Also, he was on a flouride supplement, because we have a cistern and our water is not flouridated like city water is.

Starting at 6 months they are beneficial. I nursed my daughter for 12 months but gave her the drops starting at 6 months. You do this because this is when they start solid foods and they need the extra vitamins.

This is totally unecessary. Your baby should get all the Vitamins and minerals they need from breastmilk or formula and from the food they take. There is such a thing as overkill!

When my son was breastfed only his Dr recommended he be put on vitamin drops. When he was switched to formula only, his Dr said it was ok to take him off of his vitamins.

My kids Dr only recommends it if needed, like they have trouble absorbing iron or something or not taking milk and the food they eat isn't providing enough nutrients. It generally isn't need and can be harmful if they get too much. As your baby's Dr. before giving them.

My daughters doctor told me to give her vitamins. It doesn'y hurt unless you're giving too much. I give my daughter Tri-Vi-Sol. It's a mixture of 3 vitamins. I just mix it in with her morning bottle.

No..kids that age should be getting their vitamins from natural food and if you are still breast feeding, that's the best source of vitamins and of course, you have to watch what you eat.
