Right click an empty park on your desktop, then click the 'Appearance' tab. Click the 'Advanced' button and select the ICON item in the 'item:' drop down control. The icon size is usually set to 32.

I hope that works, because I've never tried it.
Sorry for wasting your time if it didn't work.

I am using windows XP professional, I would assume you have the XP home addition, which is about the same.

Its pretty simple to do what you want to do.

1) go to start
2) control panel
3) double click on appearance and themes
4) double click on display
5) On top in the display properties window you will see a tab called settings, click on that
6) In the bottom left of that window you will see screen resolution, It says Less or More, move the slider to the left as far as it will go,should say 800x600 pixels. Then click apply. Your icons on the desk top should now be the biggest they will get. Keep in mind that the size of the icons will be different according to the size of your monitor you are viewing. I have a 19". Each notch on the slider toward the MORE end will make the icons smaller for you, so you might have to tweek accordingly to your monitor size. Good luck!
