This one is not a stereotype, it is the truth...
Q:What are the simularities between having $e>< in a canoe, and American beer?
A:They are both /=v
No offense to you guys, but the good beer is up north (lowest % we see in our Canadian beers is 5%).
In terms of stereotypes... The usual stuff about America being dumb. I have to say that the Canadian educational system does a better job then the American system, but it's not like you don't have quality insatutions, it's more a matter of a greater amount of people falling in the cracks. It is also not like you guys are alone, it happens everwhere. People tend to not realize that when they point a finger at someone, or a group of people, there are three pointing back at that person.

Well, going to other countries, I have heard many myths about Americans...
1) Every one is over weight (Partly true, but you can't say everyone is.)
2) We are overly religious (Well, I think that has nothing to do with where you live, its what you were brought up to do or what you believe. But I could see how people would say that about the US)
3) We are all dumb. (No, I am fighting for this. Yes. Of course. I have met many unintelligent people here, but again, you can't say everyone is. Almost everyone I know has a degree or major in something important.
4) We do not care about how we look. (OK, if anything, its just the opposite. We are so VAIN! )
5) We are slobs and/or country hicks. (True if you have ever been to Kansas, Oklahoma, or Texas.)

I come from South Africa, most Africans think everyone here is rich, they have so much to eat and everyone drives(Which is true). Basically we believe what we see in the Movies I guees thats the sterotype you are promoting. However recent events have changed how people perceive the American people.
Been in America for a while myself,I think Americans in all 14 states I have visited are great.

For me this is a typical American:-
In 1953 while on a train from Bristol to Liverpool (UK) I met an American Merchant Marine and we chatted to pass the time, he was returning to his ship from shore leave. On reaching Liverpool he found that his ship was not docked where he last saw it, and asked me if I would help him. We eventually found it and he invited me to have a drink with him and his shipmates in a local bar, I was reluctant because I was very short of money, I was an Army conscript and the pay was very poor, he insisted and I didn't make much resistance. After leaving the bar we went aboard his ship and had a good meal; and about 4am I left.
The ship was 'The Sulphur Queen' and her Captain was a Londoner; and I learned many years later that she was lost in the 'Bermuda Triangle' shortly after RIP. As far as I'm concerned, ordinary American people are no different from any others, except that they are Ultra Nationalist/Religious, a trait of the Middle East which is not a good thing, in my opinion.

My own perceptions...not necessarily held by other Filipinos in the Philippines:
The negative stereotypes: loud, obnoxious, stuck up, obsessive about their government's politics, self absorbed, can't dance, can't sing (applies to the majority of Americans I've met over 21)
The positive stereotypes: up for anything, prefers the cheap beer, easily amused, can take a joke at their expense (applies mostly to Americans I've met 21 and below....the drinking age is 18 here btw...not that anyone gets carded at bars anyway)

Cocky and rude. I dont think all americans are like that, i think any country can produce cocky and rude people. But that's what i hear frequently.
I'm from Canada...and no Americans, we do not live in igloos. LOL (there would be the rude sterotype of americans)

These are not my personal beliefs because i have met many lovely americans, for that matter, most people are alike, that said, the common stereotypes of americans around here is rude, unknowledgable, militant and all those baddies. As you can see it is kind of stupid to class a country together like that because you are going to find people like that no matter where you go.

I have been America and my countries impression of Americans are that they are loud, obnoxious and ignorant. Not all but a majority. I don't hate them but I feel sorry for them as most don't realise they even act like this... They just need to get out their own county and learn that there are other countries in the world LOL.
No jokes other than that we sometimes refer to Americans as Septic tanks. Not me personally but people I know use that term.
I'm Aussie by the way :)

Americans are like any other people in the world, some are rude, some are nice. I am from Canada and the only jokes I heard lately are about Bush.
And yes we do not live in Igloos, unless you go to the arctic.
