...or repulsive? I know most Americans tend to adore foreign accents, but do those foreigners feel the same way about American accents?

Some are, some aren't. A lot of Americans (women especially) seem to have a very high nasal twang in their voice which can be a little annoying. I find the New York Jewish accent particularly grating.

But I'm hardly in a position to criticicise - Australian accents are just ghastly!

There must be SOME foreigners who find an American accent attractive...although I've never met one. It's almost like an American accent is a NON-accent...like if you strip any foreigner of any kind of accent, they'll end up with an American one :p

O'course, I'm American..so what do I know.

I think they do. At least the nice foreign visitors I've run across do. Ask any visitor if they know a Texas accent or a New York accent and they have the best time trying to mimic one or the other. It' funny. Not all folks are out to make fun of us. They wouldn't come to see our Country and all the beauty that spans the US shore to shore and the two other States that are a world all their own.

American Accents ARE attractive.....except this fellow I met from Philly that one time....LOL

Which particular American accent are you talking about? There are several regional accents in the states, some more attractive than others.

I speak Canadian!
Remember Peter Jennings!
The regional accents are interesting in their diversity.
The more pronounced the accent the more interesting!
With our modern communication, the regional accents, are now spoken by choice!
Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report is from the South but he chooses to speak Canadian!
I like the accents of some regions better than others!

I have a very thick Texas accent. When I travel to other countries, it seems that the people are attracted to it more than a midwestern or northern accent. Of course, they think that all Texans are rich, have ranches and oilwells in their backyards, too.

I used to have a friend from England and I asked her this question once. I'm not sure about other countries, but she told me that most Brits don't care for American accents. Apparently we sound stupid. This isn't surprising when you take a look at how the world views us over all.

I don't really think so. I think a lot of people from other countries may think we talk sloppy and use a lot of slang. On the other hand people may think southern or midwest accents are cute and hard to come by.
