For those of us waiting to afford a widescreen television, I find it frustrating that some of the DVDs for sale have very thick letterbox to the point where you can't even see the entire tops of heads or bodies. Someone bought me an oldie "Some Like it Hot," and when I played in on my 27 inch television, it was like a Letterbox nightmare with the actual movie shown minimally vertically and horizontally. I searched Amazon for fullscreen DVDs but there aren't a lot.

Time to get a new HDTV. Once you have it the difference will pale way beyond the complaint you have. The cool thing is that HDTV's are falling in price and the quality gets better. Remember that you also need to upgrade your cable or satellite service. Do yourself a favor and experience HDTV.

A true movie lover knows that letter-boxing is a must. It is the only way you see everything the director intended as he intended it. In a full-screen movie you are seeing what some anonymous technician thinks you should be seeing. This is not the way to see a movie. Get letter-boxed and sit closer to the TV if you have to.

I very much agree with you. Yes it's getting harder and harder to find the full screen version of movies. Unless you buy the movie when it's first out, hang it up. I can't afford a new TV right now either. I guess we'll have to keep complaining to ourselves.

Widescreen or Letterbox is pretty much the norm these days. Times, they are a-changing.

No, letterboxing is good. You miss too many details with pan & scan.

No, I like it, even on a standard-tube TV.
