u need to answer questions just to gather points in ur account so that u can further have a chance to post ur questions and get various answers from people with different point of views from all across the country.

They really don't want you to ask questions. That's why you lose 5 points when you do. The marketing people at yahoo wants to ask all the questions, and you to answer them.
Do you ever see the obvious marketing questions?

there is no reason you need to answer anything on yahoo answers but it helps the web site if it is done because if no one answers then the web site will shut down now you could never answer any questions but where is the fun in that
