How about Matchbox 20 or Rob Thomas's solo stuff. He is awesome!!
My all time fave is Sir Elton John, you should check out some of his older stuff.
Gavin Degraw is really showing himself as a force to be reccond with too!

Go listen to some old Fleetwood Mac - you'll probably find a lot of synergy. As for something more modern, maybe Keane or Coldplay.
