I cant say that I have been 100% successful yet. My little guy is three too. His birthday was in June.
I reward him with candy, stickers, surprises every time he goes or tries.
I also set a timer and then he knows it is time to go.
I put underwear on him when we are at home. Pull ups just make me lazy on the potty training and he doesn't know he made an oops.
I let him do it himself. I let him have privacy.
We do a potty celebration dance. Choo Choo the potty Train!! Get silly, he'll love it. Make it fun and then he'll want to go.

It is not unusual for a three year old to still have accidents. If he is not potty trained at all, first take him to a doctor and make sure that there is no problem. Do you have a potty chair or are you using the big toilet with a potty seat. Some kids are afraid of falling in. If he is still in diapers, get him some big boy underpants and tell him that big boys don't need diapers. I hope some of this helps.
Just remember, by high school they all know who to use the potty. HaHA Good luck

I helped a boy who had autisim get potty trained if what we used worked for him it will work for your son. What we did is for two week we had a potty party. When he woke up in the morning we set a timer for 30 minutes if he woke up dry and when the timer went off he got put on the potty for 5 minutes. Then at 8:00 we started the potty party. He go 10 minutes on the potty and 5 minutes off. He was not allowed to leave the bathroom until he went. We started with just urinary training and when he went to the bathroom he got a reward which was going outside. He got to stay ouside for only 10 minutes and then went back to the bathroom. I hope this helps. When he was in the bathroom we set up a DVD player and feed him lots of salty foods and lots of liquids

I put cheerios in the toilet and tried my best to make a game out of it since children love to play. My second son was a little harder so I had to give him rewards. I started at 2 years old with all my kids and they were fully potty trained at 3. Except for the occasional bed wetting! good luck and remember if it is fun they will be happier to do it.

If he is ready, and 3 years old is good....
Take him out of diapers. If you haven't yet tried pull-ups, then by all means do. If those did not work and you gave them 2 - 3 months to take effect, try putting him in big-boy underwear...take him to the store to pick them out.
Have a board where you can put a star, or some other sticker, every time he has success at the potty.
It just takes time, dear one. Don't become to over-anxious for that will only delay the success for your son.
Here is a great site to help you know you are not alone in this struggle...smiling

I finally stopped trying to force the issue with my son and when he was ready he started to use the potty himself. I just made sure that he knew what the potty was and that he would eventually need to go on it. I would sit him on it daily and not force him and when he was ready he went on the potty.

Well I had my son stand in front of the toilet and watch me throw some cheerios in. Then I told him to potty on the cheerios. And aim for them and it worked.

You might try letting him be naked for awhile and when he gets that "feeling" he can not only feel what is happening, but he can actually see what is going on. It can be messy, but it works and if you then put something in the toilet for him to "shoot" at he'll start going in there.
