If you were lost at sea, and floating in a little rubber dingy... I hope you remember this... hope it rains also.... but you can use sea water, if you have a purification kit in your little rubber dingy! - The use of distilling - is to filter out the impurities, not bacteria, just sediment,bugs,things like that - if you were at home you could distill your water better, by "boiling it" first and then distilling it in a closed container for 24-hours.. or until room temperature. This method is used a lot by "fish lovers" for their aquariums. Some people distill their drinking water and refrigerate it - but I personally don't like the tastelessness of distilled water... hope that answered your question..

Distillation is completely alone in its ability to remove dangerous bacteria and other \micro-organisms. Other systems may act a s a fertile breeding ground for bacteria - providing a potentially dangerous environment for individuals sensitive to bacterial contaminants - for example any immune system disorder plus individuals on chemotherapy, antibiotics, children with cystic fibrosis, diabetics, etc.

the water boils out at 100 degree's celius and flows up leaveing all the impurties(solids) in the still.
