This is a good time for you to learn to use a World Globe. If you don't have one around the house, there will be one in the library (media center?) in your school. Can you find North Carolina on the globe? Notice that the globe is divided into a Northern Hemisphere and a Southern hemisphere by a line around the middle called the Equator.
If you can find the equator, and you can find North Carolina, you will see that NC is north of the equator, and therefore in the Northern Hemisphere.
The globe is also divided into an Eastern and a Western hemisphere by a line called the International Date Line that crosses the Pacific Ocean, and continues around the earth as the Greenwich Meridian. If you can find the Greenwich Meridian and you can find North Carolina, you will see that we are west of the Greenwich Meridian.
Therefore we are in the Western hemisphere, as well as the Northern hemisphere. Good old North Carolina.
