Although not widely known, there was an invasion of cherry tomatoes in the early 60s. It took over Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City.
Only when it threatened the Naval Air Station did they leap into action

The actual events paled in comparison to the very current Attack of the E.Coli Spinach. Okay, that's a comment in poor taste considering the nationwide illness and one death this bacteria caused. I apologize!!!

Yes, it really happened. I was there. Luckily I had a fork and a huge bottle of Wishbone Creamy Italian and I stopped the invasion single handedly. It gave me indigestion for weeks and I've never touched a salad since.

Yes, except the "Attack" was more of a sit-in, and the "tomatoes" were actually couch potatoes. The couches were tortured and crumbed to death.

Yes! Nobody has ever dared ask this question before, because the truth was just too shocking and had to be covered up.

Absolutely. I have first hand experience with the violent vegetables. I live in New Jersey and as everyone knows we have the biggest and juiciest tomatoes here.
It was terrible. One day I went to the grocery store and would you believe -- the cans of tomato soup and tomato sauce were attacking us as well as all the vegetables.
I was lucky to survive.
After some gene-splicing, our tomatoes were calm again.
I never want to endure such horror again. (I keep watching the Jersey corn)
