Start with smallest (utensils), then middle-sized (cups, glasses, cereal bowls, plates) then move to large (pots, pans, pitchers, trays). I'm borderline typeA and this works great for me.

Do the least dirty dishes first, usually the glassware, then the cuttlery and then plates and serving dishes (if any) and finish up with the pots which are usually the hardest to clean. Doing the dishes is a good time if you are doing them with someone else, because of the conversation that can happen. Much better than putting on the dishwasher and then watching TV (a conversation killer).

Start with the glasses, then silverware, cups, saucers, cereal bowls, dinner plates, pots and pans (cleanest to dirtiest) , and skillets last. Rinse in the hottest water as you wash, and put them in a dish drainer or lean then against each other so they air dry a little as you continue to wash. Dry and put the dishes away when you run out of room on the drainer. I like white cotton dish towels. Oh dear, this takes me back. If nothing else, get yourself a portable dishwasher. Cheers.

The best way to do them is in the dishwasher. It uses less water than handwashing and I'm sure they come out more sanitary. However, if you are hand washing do the glassware, dinner ware and utensils before you do the pots and pans. The pots and pans are usually more dirty than the rest. Prerinsing is a good idea for all the dishes. Don't mix more delicate breakables with pots and pans and that kind of thing.

Well, I have never had a dishwasher so I have been doing them by hand for 20+ years! I wash my plates first so they can line up in the drainer then I wash my glasses(glass then plastic),bowls(glass then plastic),silverware and then any pans or baking dishes with baked on food stuck on them. I like to wash all my glass items first so they have room in the drainer. Plastic stuff can be dried in a snap. I also put a drop of dishwashing liquid and HOT water in any dishes with baked on food on them to soak while I wash everything else. This seems to really work.

Soak plates and silverware in hot, soapy water while you was the cups and glasses. Wash the plates, then the silverware. Try to do dishes as close to the end of the meal as possible. They are easier to wash that way. If you aren't going to wash them right away, make sure they get rinsed really well after the meal.

I won't say that this is the best way or the best order. But I generally wash glasses and cups first, then plates and silverware- and then the cookware. If I had to use something large to mix or cook in and it'se empty, I will wash that separately.

Keep in mind that I don't use a dish-washing machine, and wouldn't even if I had one.

The key to make it fast and quick is to assemble them first. All silverware on the bottom of the washpan. Then large dinner plates. Fill with hot hot soapy water (wear gloves). Then while the silverware and plates are soaking, wash the glasses using the top layer of the soapy water. Then wash dishes, then silverware (both will wash themselves). Pots and pans can soak until later so you don't waste time scrubbing them. However, if you're really organized, you can soak them as soon as the food is removed and they'll be ready to wash with your other dishes.

I love that new Dawn Direct foam, just a little on a sponge really does do a whole sinkful. Wash glasses first, then plates, bowls, cups, silverware, then pots last. You dont need to fill the sink with soapy water, just wet the sponge, apply the dawn, and wash..... set them in the other sink, and rinse all when done washing. Way easier than the old way.

I love to clean but the dishes aren't my favorite either. I rinse everything off first so there aren't any food particles on the dish. Then I soap and scrub everything with the water turned off. After that I rinse with scalding hot water and put in the dish drainer or dishwasher to dry.

For hand washing hot soapy water. I like to do glasses and plastics first then plates bowls silver ware should be soaking I then do them and the bog pots that are left. I usually run fresh water to clean my counters.

For rinsing I'm a firm believer in prerinsing then rinsing in a sink with a small amount of bleach to kill bacteria. Its the triple sink policy set by the health dept.
