This is also known as "Sudden Death".
I don't like it myself (in fact my Eagles lost to the Giants today under this rule).
I much prefer the rule to play an "entire" quarter or designated period of time, and the team who is ahead at the buzzer is the winner. This way both teams get the chance to handle the ball making it more fair to both teams.

I agree that it isn't a very fair system, but since it was started this way, very few games have ended with the first possession in OT. I like the way a lot of college games do it: Put the ball on the 25 and try to score. Then the other team gets it. After both teams gets a shot, who ever scored more wins. If neither team scored, or they both get the same points, do it again.

they might want to not have an equivalent possibility to score because communities at the on the spot are not equivalent. If one crew has a adverse offense, are you going to provide them the ball in the direction of the objective to assist them out? both communities must have a truthful possibility to score. Shift the previous customary time kickoff to the 40 backyard line to extend the potential for putting out on the 20. this can make issues extra truthful for the protection. With the present guidelines, the receiving communities have received 60% of the time. it fairly is a touch lopsided yet not too undesirable. slightly adjustment like the kickoff might want to do the trick or perhaps in basic terms play yet another 10 minute quarter. what's fairly bogus is the school way of "previous customary time". a million. it isn't previous customary time because there's no time saved. you've the whole ball administration offense? not a aspect. 2. impressive kickers contained in the country? not a aspect. So what in the experience that your punter kicks 50 or 60 yards. he's not necessary. Your container objective kicker can nail one from 50 yards. It ain't occurring in "previous customary time". 3. were given a killer protection? enable's provide the different crew the ball on the 25, regardless of in the experience that they have got not gotten it there all sport. 4. truthful coin toss? enable's say your crew beneficial properties 24 yards yet fails to score on 4th down. the different crew can kick a container objective without gaining a backyard because they received the toss and function the ball very last. 5. i might want to bypass on yet college OT is bogus. It makes for a exciting sport in spite of the undeniable fact that it's not truthful.

It's entirely fair. Each team has an equal chance to win. Also, under the NFL procedure, the game can still end in a tie

I agree. It really stinks. Especially because the team that wins the coin toss and gets the ball first almost always wins. I wish they would let each team have the ball once in each OT period, like they do in college.

It doesnt matter because you still have a legitimate shot to get the ball first even if you lose the toss...Remember the Lions coach several years ago,the dumb @ss actually elected to kick it when he won the toss

You're right, it's not fair. The receiving team definitely has an advantage.

i think it cool this way..it's sudden death...in stead of drag the game out...those are the hardest yards of the game and that makes good on the edge football ..everyone likes that...it funny cause you see teams execute very well in OT..but not in regular time....
