My computer doesn't recognize the CD drive (D:) or the USB thumb drive. Is this a windows issue? Does windows need to be reloaded or is there an easier way.

ok heres the deal either your driver has been corrupted by a virus or spyware! in that case you need to get rid of that and reinstall the driver for those drives! but try this first settings>control panel>add remove hardware> it will do a search and see if it recognizes your drives as new hardware! if it does then you can proced to reinstall them like you do with new hardware and you may still have to reinstall the drivers!

Try going to control panel and click on ADD HARDWARE. Xp will search for the devices.

first check it's connections then go to hardware anddevice manager check driver file
