Yes, it was catholism. If you do your history, you will find that many an evil man has been the leader of that religion. It's very interesting. Not saying that all popes are bad. There's been many "bad" pastors and ministers. It's just a very interesting history.

Christian because they were CATHOLIC and CATHOLICS ARE CHRISTIANS! How many times do we have to say that? The Protestants that call themselves Christians ALL came from the Catholic religion, the first Protestant religion starting in the mid 1550s. Those who simply call themselves Christians are much more recent, perhaps not even 50 years old. Most Italians remain Catholic even today.
